How Gumballs are Made

Gumball

Gumballs have been a popular treat for a very long time. These candies are basically bubblegum, which was first invented in 1928. A man named Walter Diemer was testing recipes for a chewing gum base when he noticed that his mixture contained many light and airy bubbles. Bubblegum eventually evolved into the first gumball. The modern gumball can be made out of a variety of different substances, both natural and artificial. The main ingredients in gumballs are gum base, sweeteners, softeners, flavoring, and coloring. Each and every gumball contains a gum base. The earliest gum bases used chicle, which is a mix of the resin from sapodilla and spruce trees. Synthetics are used to improve the flavor of the gum. To this day, the gumball continues to be a popular candy.
