The Long-Time Vending Machine Favorite: Gumballs
Gumballs have been a fixture in vending machines for many years. No matter where you go, you’re likely to find a machine full of gumballs looking jolly and just waiting for your quarter. From supermarkets to office buildings and shopping malls, gumballs are everywhere.
Gumballs are balls made of bubblegum and covered in a hard candy shell. The actual history and creation date of gumballs is debatable, but machines similar to gumball machines have been around since at least the 1880s.
The popularity of gumballs has led to their widespread availability in gumball machines all across the world. The machines range from the very simple - turn the knob and a gumball comes through a small door - to the amusing - the gumball goes down a spiral ramp or through an obstacle course before being delivered to the waiting hand.
